Arekkusu - Arekkusu
Xando is also Pretochines, and Pretochines is Arekkusu. These names do not function as heteronyms. They are more like different names that situate the works of the same artist, the same person, who has different areas of production and personalities. Arekkusu, in his various aliases, has been part of Monster Jinx's history since 2015. He is also an active member of the lofi.hiphop community, led by Canadian producer “bsd.u.”
In his words, “In Angola and with the guidance of ntourage, whom I came to know personally, Arekkusu developed and evolved pretochines' production style into a more lofi sound.” Arekkusu, being more focused on boom bap beats, travels aboard an SP 404 SX.
This eponymous beat tape is an expression of the producer's most ethereal, spacious, and sampled beatmaking abilities. There is contemplation and even a cozy slowness in this music. There is a Sunday flavor, time to burn at the tip of a cigarette, and there is, as could only be expected with Xando, a variety of aesthetic and sonic references. There is a lot of instrumental hip hop, but we even get to house or R&B explorations. These are short beats with a lot of space at their core.
In this process, Henrique J Paris (an African artist who has worked with RS Produções) was involved in the beattape as Creative Director, curating beats and visuals. The artwork is by Canadian-based Brazilian illustrator and artist Thomas Mögk.
